Guards can have a variety of kits equipped, affecting how they behave and how difficult they are to take out.

Gun Weapon

Guns are typically used to shoot people. Evade the attack or use emergency shield to bounce the projectiles back at enemies.
Shotgun Weapon

(lethal)

Lethal firearm with a wide range of shots, difficult to dodge.
Concussive gun Weapon (non-lethal) Knocks you out but won't make you bleed.
Concussive shotgun Weapon (non-lethal) Non-lethal firearm with a wide range of shots, difficult to dodge.
Heat sensor Detector A large red ring appears around the guard, showing the detection radius. Can detect you within sensor range without line of sight. The guard will sound the alarm and investigate. Evade or incapacitate. Crashing the guard will disable the heat sensor. Guns can take them out from outside the sensor range. If the guard is vulnerable to your melee weapon, it is possible to KO them with a dash attack before they have time to sound the alarm, even with the heat sensor active.
Life Link Detector Green beams connect the members of each squad. If any member of a squad is harmed, all the others are alerted. Avoid, use stealth shields, or plan to take the entire squad down. Crashing a life-linked guard disables their connection to the squad, which lets you take that guard out safely.
Glitch dash Mobility A red-yellow-green pulsing effect appears on the guard. Teleports instantly to suspicious sounds or sights, eg. you. Avoid detection or use it to lure the guard away. Be careful about using non-silenced guns, especially in sectors where multiple guards have this kit.
Armour Protection The guard wears yellow-gold plates. Immune to attacks from any weapons that don't have the Ignores Armour (Armour-Piercing) trait. Explosives, sentry guns, and top tier weapons can defeat armour. Otherwise, consider using a glitch trap to space them or teleport them into your pod and detach it.
Emergency shield Protection When the shield is off, a dashed blue circle is drawn around the guard. The usual shield effect is used when the shield is on. Reflects all incoming damage. Activates when alerted. If you take the guard out without alerting them, the shield will never activate. Alternatively, Crashbeams disable shields, while Subverters invert them (you can shoot them, they can't shoot you). A glitch trap or teleport into your pod works also.
Shield Protection A solid blue shield effect appears around the guard. Reflects all incoming damage. Always on. Crashbeams disable shields, while Subverters invert them (you can shoot them, they can't shoot you). A glitch trap or teleport into your pod works also.
Explosive Protection A pulsing red glow emanates from the guard. Rigged with explosives that detonate if hit with lethal damage. Use non-lethal weapons or teleporting.
